In short: Donald J. Hall, Jr. began his Hallmark career in 1971 working in product, operations and sales assignments.
In 1993 he was promoted to general manager of the company's Christmas ornament brand, Keepsakes.
In 1995 he was named as vice president of creative and in 1996 was elected vice chairman of the board.
In 1999 he becoming executive vice president after having served as vice president of product development.
On December 31, 2001 Irvine O. Hockaday retired as president and CEO of Hallmark Cards Inc. He was succeeded by Donald J. Hall, Jr., the executive vice president of strategy and development. Hockaday serves as a trustee for the Hall Family Foundation in his retirement, but he resigned from the board of directors. As the new president and CEO, Hall continues as the vice chairman of Hallmark's board, a position he has held since 1996.
