Redirect this thing

Could someone please explain why "doomsday devices in popular culture" is a sufficiently distinct subject from "doomsday device" to have two articles, given that doomsday devices exist almost exclusively in fiction? Without such an explanation, I see fit to redirect the page. If you find sourcing for something current listed, you can get it out of the article history.
