I have heard that Druss was inspired by a physically imposing friend of Gemmells', who when David was threatened by a group of men in a bar diffused the situation by crushing a glass in his hand, causing the group to think twice. However, can find no references to this on a quick google. Anyone else heard this/can verify it as it would make a nice triva addition to the article. --Angelstorm 09:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi the following is taken from an interview with Gemmell in October 2000 at the at the World Fantasy Convention in Texas.

"Years later, when I wrote my first novel, I used Bill as the model for a character. His name was Druss the Legend. Bill re-appeared in many novels thereafter, in many guises."

In this he is talking about his Stepfather.

I also seem to remember a interview somewhere in which Gemmell stated that he physically based Druss on Brian Blessed but am unable to cite this Pdgibbons 05:28, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
