Talk:Elevations Residential Treatment Center

I will be working on this article, and ask that other editors work together on it. There are many sources, including articles and public records that make this particular program important and warrant an article on wikipedia. The sources should not be based solely on the website, and should include third-party sources - of which there are many. The article should reflect what is on the public record. I invite editors to contribute viewpoints from multiple sources, but it is important that we include all, and work together.

In regards to the naming controversy, it is important to note that the program's website states staff members have worked at Elevations RTC since the 1990s, and thus, the program is clearly closely linked to Island View. This should be considered in all edits that would like to state otherwise.

http://www.elevationsrtc.com/jen-capellen/ : "Jen began at Elevations in 1999 as milieu manager and a classroom teacher before working her way up to Dean of Students."

http://www.elevationsrtc.com/judi-jacques/: "Judi Jacques, M. Ed., Associate Executive Director
Judi joined Elevations in 1998 as a history teacher. After teaching for two years, she became the Academic Director, and helped to develop one of the best academic programs in the therapeuti"

http://www.elevationsrtc.com/laura-burt/: Laura joined Elevations’ boarding school for troubled youth in 1996, and has since been a force of both compassion and understanding for the 1,000+ families with whom she has worked. After moving out of a small town in Idaho, Laura ventured to Utah to continue her education. She now refers to Elevations as her second family. In her spare time, she loves reading, traveling, running and spending time with her family. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ttifacts (talkcontribs) 06:36, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

controversy[edit]

I will further clarify the controversy in the article later this week when I have time. But the article is important to wikipedia due to the cotnroversy of the program. There have been more than one parent unhappy with their child being at the program due to its history. Please review the below, and I will add details regarding these soon. In the meantime do not vandalize the article. The controversy surrounds the parents being unhappy their child is placed in a program with the history it had when it was Island View. A large court case was filed involving Dr. Phil and the program, which should also be cited in this article. Otherwise, the island view article should be named elevations and this article deleted because the PROGRAM was sold, and not closed and reopened, unless there is evidence that a program with entirely new everything was put into place, which is doubtful.

Friend, these are all covered extensively in the Island View Residential Treatment Center article. We can certainly add a link in the Controversy section to those. None of those cases so far have been shown to carry over to Elevations, and this is starting to appear to be a case where unhappy parents are trying to work out their custody battles in social media and Wikipedia. We need to ensure the article maintains WP:NPOV. The sole custody battle on the Elevations page has no verifiable citations. Someone had tried using Twitter as a source, and another editor (rightfully) deleted that. It's pretty clear that someone has an axe to grind against Island View and is now trying to carry it over to Elevations. If Elevations is the cause of the controversy, then cite that. But no one has done so yet.
It is always distinctly unhelpful and unproductive to accuse others of vandalism, by the way. Please note also that shouting in FULL CAPS doesn't solve anything either in Wikipedia-land. Best regards, GetSomeUtah (talk) 11:27, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They have been shown to carry over to elevations. Please see the links above which refer to students at elevations the topic of this discussion. We should not be using soley sources written by and paid for by this facility. Why are you so adamant to not mention the obvious?

The custody battle is featured in court documents and in the press which are verifiable sources.

(talk) (I apologize if I do not tag user names correctly to respond in this discussion, I am not familiar with the coding on wikipedia) Please do not edit war the comments added to the controversy section. I have done extensive scholarly research on this subject over the years, and HEAL is a verifiable source in the troubled teen industry. Elevations' affiliation with Island View is also important to note here, and there are verifiable sources which agree, i.e. court cases and organizations like HEAL. It is important to add this information from third-party sources, which do not only include the information that is contributed by paid people for the programs. You are welcome to discuss this further here, and we can discuss changes you think are important and negotiate but we should not be deleting contributions without discourse. Ttifacts (talk) 06:09, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I realize some of these things are discussed on the discussion page. However, the two subjects are interrelated and some aspects are equally as important to both parties. For example, should we discuss the conflicts going on between Israel and Palestine, some of the same information would understandably apply to both articles. The same applies here.

GetSomeUtah says.... Friend, the HEAL source you cited refers specifically to Aspen Educational Group. Here is the exact quote from the citation you provided: " Aspen Education Group--Confirmedly Abusive and Associated with the CEDU Cult Model." Aspen certainly may have been confirmedly abusive. All of that is detailed on the Island View page. You're welcome to put this on that page. The HEAL information continues on to cite numerous staffers who no longer at Elevations, and the ones who are deal in finance and logistics. HEAL makes a point of saying the academic registrar isn't a mental healthcare professional. Well, why would he be? Or why would the groundskeeper need to be? The bulk of the citation points out just how many of the teachers at Island View are no longer at Elevations:
Donna Hart Teacher HEAL has contacted the Utah Office of Education and is waiting on verification regarding Island View's teacher certifications. Hart no longer appears to work for this program.
Shannon Hohosh Teacher HEAL has contacted the Utah Office of Education and is waiting on verification regarding Island View's teacher certifications. Hohosh no longer appears to work for this program.
Jon Mehl Teacher HEAL has contacted the Utah Office of Education and is waiting on verification regarding Island View's teacher certifications. Mehl no longer appears to work for this program.
Nate Pack Teacher Educated in Logan, UT. The UT Dep't of Education cannot officially verify any teacher without their CACTUS ID number or social security number. That said, Nate Pack appears to be licensed to teach Visual Arts in UT. (Source: e-mail from UT Dep't of Education)
Stacey Palmer Teacher HEAL has contacted the Utah Office of Education and is waiting on verification regarding Island View's teacher certifications. Palmer no longer appears to work for this program.
Chad Sanders Teacher Graduate of Southern UT Univ. Majored in German. HEAL has contacted the Utah Office of Education and is waiting on verification regarding Island View's teacher certifications. Sanders no longer appears to work for this program.
Friend, this is a biased source you've selected, and it has been quoted from selectively. It clearly refers to Island View and particularly to Aspen Group, which, as I said, has some well documented issues. Please use this material, if you wish, with Island View/Aspen. As a part of the dispute resolution process, I am discussing it here, as per WP:DISPUTE rather than deleting the material outright. Please respond promptly. Thanks. GetSomeUtah (talk) 08:42, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I left most of your edits. I still think the lawsuit is relevant to this article, especially considering the public figure involved. Nowhere does it say it caused it. I'm sure there were several abuse accusations against the aspen programs that caused it along with other variables.

As for heal, they specifically have criticism related to elevations, which I cited.

Any other issues??

I was looking for pages to edit and ran across this and similar page.

TTI facts seems to have an agenda and is a single purpose account https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia%3ASingle-purpose_account#Decision-making_tags. It seems as this page is the only one in Wikipedia TTI bothers to edit and does not have a neutral point of view: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view.

Based on citations provided and a quick search of evidence of web content available online currently, Elevations has new ownership and licensing. TTIFacts states that a program is different only when ”there is evidence that a program with entirely new everything was put into place". This is not remotely a condition for whether a business is new or not. Ownership, leadership, name, licensing all seem to indicate a preponderance of evidence showing Elevations is NOT the same as Island View.

Lasty, as asked on Island View page, do either Elevations of Island View even warrant page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KTJOlber (talkcontribs) 23:13, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
