Monetary Union

[edit]

The Problem

[edit]

This is a disambiguation page for "EMU".
Regarding monetary unions, EMU may refer to:

  • Economic and monetary union
  • European Monetary Union
  • (Other?)

The pages telling more about monetary unions are:

In other words, EMU may refer to at least two terms, and there are at least two pages on WP discussing monetary unions.

It seems to me that there are two, one-to-one relationships:

History

[edit]
  1. EMU (disambiguation) is (still) a redlink
  2. EMU was created 7 December 2007 as a redirect to Emu (disambiguation)
  3. Emu (disambiguation) was created 10 September 2002 as a redirect to European Monetary Union
    1. European Monetary Union created 10 September 2002 as a redirect to Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
    2. Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union created 15 December 2003 as a redirect to Economic and monetary union
    3. Economic and monetary union created 26 February 2002 as: An economic and monetary union is a single market with a common currency. It is to be distinguished from a mere monetary union (e.g. the Latin Monetary Union in the 1800s), which does not involve a single market. The only economic and monetary union at present is the European Union.
  4. Time passed. (Six years.)
  5. On 8 June 2008. Emu (disambiguation) says:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union, see Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
  6. 11 Sept 2008, User:Allo002, without comment, changes it to:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
  7. Then immediately, without comment, changes it to:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union
  8. An hour later, User:Sesshomaru changes it, with comment "(correction)", to:
    1. The Economic and Monetary Union, a stage of economic integration
  9. 2.5 hours later, User:Pdfpdf reverts back 3 versions with the comment "(What was there is much better than all of those three alternatives - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.")", giving:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union, see Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
  10. 2 hours later, User:Sesshomaru changes, with the comment "(That was my mistake, I confounded the two. Sorry about that)", giving:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. The Economic and Monetary Union
  11. 9 hours later, User:Pdfpdf sees this change. "European Monetary Union" has disappeared, and there are now two adjacent lines saying "Economic and monetary union" pointing to different pages. Clearly User:Sesshomaru didn't agree with User:Pdfpdf that "What was there is much better", so User:Pdfpdf tries a different approach, which he doesn't really like, but thinks will address User:Sesshomaru's concerns. So, with comment "(Yes, you did. And you got it wrong the second time, too. Although rather wordy, I think this "touches all bases". (However, I still think what was there is the best option.))", and changes it to
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union, sometimes used as an abbreviation of "Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union", which is also sometimes referred to as the European Economic and Monetary Union
  12. Pdfpdf was wrong; Sesshomaru does not like it. Responds "(This is too long, why not leave it as it was? I don't see the need for a redirect)", and changes back to:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. The Economic and Monetary Union
  13. So we're back to two "Economic and Monetary Union"s pointing to different pages! Pdfpdf is bemused. "why not leave it as it was?" That's what Pdfpdf tried, but Sesshomaru didn't like it. "I don't see the need for a redirect". The redirect has been there for six years; why, suddenly, does Sesshomaru not see the need for it? Pdfpdf reverts with the comment: "(Again (3rd time) you have failed to notice that "Economic and monetary union" is NOT the same as "European Monetary Union". See the Talk page for more discussion.)", giving:
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union, sometimes used as an abbreviation of "Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union", which is also sometimes referred to as the European Economic and Monetary Union
  14. However, nobody seems to like this (particularly Pdfpdf), and Sesshomaru doesn't like what was there, so Pdfpdf has another try with comment "(Try something different.)":
    1. Economic and monetary union, a stage of economic integration
    2. European Monetary Union, an abbreviation of "Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union"
which, to him, doesn't seem much different to what was there, but ...
