In Germany, the term "Erlenmeyer Rule" (see Erlenmeyer-Regel in German Wikipedia) mainly refers to a different very useful rule of thump and is not about enolization like the English version. This other Erlenmeyer rule was formulated (but maybe never published as such) by R. A. C. Emil Erlenmeyer (Richard Carl August Emil Erlenmeyer), as well, and states that chemical compounds that carry more than one hydroxy group (–OH) on an sp3 hybridized carbon atom like e. g. hydrates of aldehydes are generally not stable, but tend to split off water.[1] Arzneistoff-Wissenschaftler (talk) 15:08, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
