What's the rationale behind not buying the highest-ranking stock?

I wondered that too, the Motley Fool don't mention a reason in their old page explaining the method. The only explanation I could find was on http://jasonzweig.com/false-profits/ , I'd rather not include a second-hand source in the article. He says: "(The Motley Fool folks assert that the single lowest-priced stock can be “dangerous,” since it’s often financially troubled; but they don’t explain why the stocks whose prices are right behind it should be any safer" 210.246.58.27 (talk) 04:27, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
