New to sections[edit]

Wikipedia is somewhat lacking in its comprehensive "List of American Forts". Colorado FortsAs you can see in this example from Colorado, the majority of forts that are included in this list do not have a working link.

There are several GREAT web resources detailing the building, service, and evacuation of these forts - notably northamericanforts.com. I would like to make Wikipedia's "Fort Content" as detailed and informational as this other site.

My article got tagged for being short - I purposely want to establish working pages for these forts and include them in Wikipedia's master list. Once they are established, we can build all their content. I plan on expanding the American Fort List to be far more complete than it is right now - There were thousands of forts built across the America, all them have a unique story. They NEED to be featured on Wikipedia.

Researching Fort Huerfano[edit]

PROD tag removal[edit]

I removed the PROD tag on Fort Huerfano as there were two sources I was able to find on it. That being said its notability is still in question and it may be a redirect target. ~EDDY ^{(talk/contribs)}~ 22:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

EDDY, I don't think either of those meet the definition of reliable sources. One of them was used in the article previously and I removed it. Is there some indication that I missed that these are reliable?

I cannot add back a PROD, so maybe I should do an AfD. I am not seeing that this is the least bit notable. I even tried local libraries, the county historical society, etc. I spent about two hours trying to find a reliable source. From a biography on his life, it looks like Charlie Autobees established Fort Pueblo. See p. 174. The fort is mentioned to have been built by a former George Bent employee, which fits for Autobees (but isn't a direct tie). See this.

I think I see the confusion with Autobees and Fort Huerfano. Fort Huerfano was in Pueblo County near Avondale, which is on the Arkansas River. Autobees lived later in Huerfano County, off the Huerfano River, which is south of Pueblo, but someone who didn't know that might have thought that all the Huerfano places were in the same area.... Charles Autobees[edit]

Based upon these sources, there seems to be some confusion. Autobees had a settlement on the Huerfano River in Huerfano County, Colorado... which is a different area than the Avondale area of Pueblo County. I think someone got confused because the Fort was named Fort Huerfano and thought that they were in the same area.

Since the source does not appear to be a reliable source, I am removing the sentence and source. Please let me know if there are any questions.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:22, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Resolution[edit]

Just to make sense of these discussions, this was sorted out at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fort Huerfano - there was confusion because the initial Huerfano County was quite large and encompassed the southeastern portion of Colorado.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:27, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
