Adele 3rd wife

Perhaps this is not an important issue...

A marriage is mentioned, (Geoffrey's third) to "Adele, the daughter of Count Odo II of Blois". The Odo II article doesn't confirm or support that Adele (3WO Geoffrey) was Odo's daughter. It doesn't deny or challenge her parentage either, however. There is no mention of her at all in that article.

Odo II of Blois lists two wives for Odo (Eudes) so that Adele's mother can not even be assumed by default. Adele probably doesn't warrant her own article, and any information on her would have to be included in related articles.

When an article is linked by another as a reference it should contain some relevant information. I know that the linking is done automatically sometimes by keyword, and it would be asking an author to go over and above to check every link in an article for relevancy.

I don't have a solution... just pointing out the problem. If there is no "relevancy policing" of linked articles the potential value of the links will decline to the point of being worthless. Well, to some degree that reflects the state of scholarship in this case. From [1]: "No other reference has been found to Adela. She may have been the mistress rather than wife of Comte Geoffroy. The only 'count Eudes' identified at this time is Eudes II Comte de Blois, but no other record has been identified of his having a daughter named Adela." FWIW, normally when creating new articles on medieval personalities, I cross-check that they're linked to by immediate genealogical relatives (parents, in-laws, etc.). Thanks Choess. I have never found anything more on Adele either... that's why I followed the link. The article would probably be improved by the removal of the link and the insertion of "alleged" or "unproven", but what bothered me most was that the link was probably added automatically and after the author had "finished" the article. In fact it bothered me enough to start a discussion at Community Portal> Policy. Link Policing..?--Dogfish 04:37, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Not really, it was added by Mississippienne, here. Since she added Duby as a source in the same edit, presumably that is where she got the info. (Not to say that Duby is infallible, of course.) Adam Bishop 05:13, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
