Making this page

[edit]

I thought that the song deserved it's own page. Here are the reasons:

  • This is a song that gets airplay on the radio
  • The song has become better known recently due to the CD/DVD Live From Madison Square Garden that Clapton and Winwood released.
  • The song has been on a number of commercials. For example, it was a song used by Memorex to show how well the audiotape could reproduce this song.
  • The song, in my opinion, is an excellent song that shows an awesome synergy between Winwood, Wood & Capaldi.

There are numerous places in Wikipedia that emphasize citing sources and for good reason. With this entry, there was not a lot to reference. Here's what I mean:

  • Glad is obviously the first song on John Barleycorn Must Die.
  • There's no disputing who the 3 musicians are that played "Glad" on this album.
  • Much of the entry discusses the 3 sections of the song. Clearly, the first 1:46 (one minute, 46 seconds) of the song has an easily recognized melody. At 1:47, you can listen to that melody changing. The same is true at 4:18.

What would improve this entry is answering the question, "What inspired Steve Winwood to write "Glad"? I have seen absolutely no information in that regard. V Schauf (talk) 03:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The edit by Krobertj looks great!

I took out the ""Glad" was played in commercials for Memorex audiotape.[citation needed]" I want to go along w/ the value of being able to verify things like that statement. If we can't verify that, then maybe it should be out. If you have a good reason to leave it in, let me know. I'm willing to put it back in; I'm kind of on the fence.

I have an idea. Don't know if it will work. But maybe someone or some department at Memorex would know more about this and then we could add the citation. Memorex has a home page but don't have the time to call them...yet.V Schauf (talk) 19:48, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
