Changing history again, aren´t you.
A guild, has nothing to do with a labour union, nor with a trade union, it has to do with technical expertice, what these days are universities & technical schools. Your use of words such as partisan is so patheticly politically oriented in the direction of labour unions, that there is solely one thought that comes to mind: you are a labour union sindicalist attempting to discredit technical expertice, because those do not fall into a labour union package.
