Starbox needed

[edit]

I am not an astronomer, nor an accomplished editor of Wikipedia astronomy articles. I do not know how to edit the Starbox. Please add the Starbox.

Just paste in a starbox from another star article and change all the fields to match this star. Or paste in from template:starbox begin and any of the sub-templates that you want to have for your star. They come with all the fields empty and comments describing what each field can contain. I have been editing Wikipedia for 16 years, with more than 10,000 edits, mostly science articles, and yet I have no idea how this mark-up <ref name="Gaia DR2 for A">{{Cite Gaia DR2|1015082573717077504}}</ref>[1] produces the full reference. Can someone please help me? Please explain how it works, and how an editor can use it. Nick Beeson (talk) 12:43, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It works exactly as you have used it. If you want to know the technicalities of how templates work, go to template:cite Gaia DR2 and look at the code. In this case, it is 99% hard-coded so no fancy syntax, just pastes in the first template parameter as a source ID in a url at the end. Lithopsian (talk) 13:56, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with the references

[edit]

Several references in the list of references are not cited in the text. For instance, references 2 and 3 are completely irrelevant here (and not cited in the article). I do not find how to delete references which are not cited in the article. Does anyone know how I should do? In addition, references 5 and 8 are the same. As of right now, references two and three are only cited in the starbox. I fixed the duplicate and cleaned up a few other things. Lithopsian (talk) 14:40, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Albert Thelium (talk) 10:51, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
