Extending this page
[edit]What more is there to say?? Pittising 21:16, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. I removed the "please expand this" tag and the stub tag until somebody can explain what needs to be added (or, better, just add it themselves). - furrykef (Talk at me) 12:54, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Epidemiology, causes, and treatment. I've had a lot of difficulty finding good literature on this topic, or I'd do it. Millionmice (talk) 22:21, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
More on hangnails
[edit]What more can be said? I have found that a hangnail too small to be dealt with by scissors / clippers can be filed down to the point where it no longer causes discomfort. There, I feel better already. Myles325a (talk) 04:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Hangnails and nutrition
[edit]Anecdotally, I will start popping up hangnails when I don't drink enough orange juice. I've found articles claiming a link between folic acid, vitamin C or zinc deficiency, but nothing definitive. At least, nothing that I would call a credible source. Still, I start drinking orange juice daily, and they go away. --Javance (talk) 05:23, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Odd, as I drink plenty of orange juice and I still have them!

Catchy
[edit]The reference link "proving" this word exists is to a copy of this Wikipedia page. I've never heard of a "catchy" before, though you would call your nail a "catchy nail", when it keeps getting caught on things. Remove? Saint|swithin 09:27, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
i think it is not torn skin, but torn nail is shown on the photo
[edit]current version of the article https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hangnail&oldid=1079598676 . --Qdinar (talk) 08:49, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- seems they define nail as part of skin. and according to the definition of hangnail it can be both torn nail and torn skin. --Qdinar (talk) 12:03, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- there are also images of torn skin on the web, for example https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/hangnail-condition-caused-due-excessive-dryness-1937233066 . please add similar image to this article. --Qdinar (talk) 12:07, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- The location of hangnails, though, is usually on the side of the nail. It may look like a torn nail in the photo, but it's usually skin that hardened and thus "feels like" and "looks like" it is a nail, even though it is still skin. The text could mention that hangnails occasionally also appear on the fingers behind the nail, if it doesn't yet, but the current image is more representative for the phenomenon than the stock photo.
