Removal of uncommon/unaccepted names

[edit]

First, I would like to thank the person who wrote this page for adding it to Wikipedia. However, I would like to ask that future changes to the article only use commonly-accepted nicknames for these objects. Some of these nicknames are clearly invented. (At least one nickname that was previously in this article, "Surfboard Galaxy", was invented by a user now banned from Wikipedia partly for promoting his new names for astronomical objects. Several of us are still trying to undo his damage to Wikipedia.) Please check the SIMBAD or NED to see if they list the nicknames that are being used here. Thank you, GeorgeJBendo 08:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Distances to objects

[edit]

The following was added by another user to the main page as a block of text. It would appear that the figures should be incorporated into the main table. I haven't done it myself, because I am no expert, and don't know whether the figures are correct. Would someone more expert than I am be prepared to verify and include them? Thanks. talkGiler 17:38, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NGC 4039 = Caldwell 61

[edit]

This object is listed under "Herschel 400 objects which are also Caldwell objects", however it is NOT a Herschel 400 object. (It is part of the Herschel-2 list.) Pekoebrew (talk) 01:25, 16 August 2017 (UTC) I will go ahead and remove NGC 4039 from as noted. Pekoebrew (talk) 10:34, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
