To do list:
- The lindisfarne illustration does not show off the intricate Celtic decoration described in the text. Find a better image.
- Add one well-researched sentence on the influence of Northumbrian monastic culture on development of European (Frankish?) culture.
- Build up the section on the Pre-roman period. There is lots of archeological evidence.
- Reinforce section on impact of Norman feudalism -- make it more explicit.
- complete description of Harrying of the North, and its effects on Northumberland (rather than Yorkshire)
- find something useful to say about the council of the north
- get book on industrial development of the northeast, probably lots on coal mining

Berwick not Norham
[edit]The question of the Scottish sucession was settled not at Norham Castle in 1290 but at the Castle of Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1292, now part of Northumberland but then very much in Scotland. Rcpaterson 01:52, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
