Types of bear

In Bring 'em Back Alive: The Best of Frank Buck, on p. 177, Buck wrote that several kinds of bears are mistaken for honey bears, though they are not. These include "the kinkajou of South America, the Himalayan panda, and the Australian koala bear". Buck writes that there is only one honey bear, "the one found in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, and adjacent islands." Buck describes this bear as the smallest of the bear family, with coal-black fur, growing to one-third the size of the American black bear. While still a cub, it "resembles a Chow puppy". He calls the honey bear the clown of the animal world. Whether Buck is correct about any of this I don't know.

Popular Science describes the sun bear as "smallest of all bears" which live in "southeast Asia, from Yunnan province in China down to Borneo". Because of its love of bees and beehives, this bear was called a honey bear. Types of bear.
