Strange thing about this road, after having lived in the city for 20 years on and off, have never heard any one ever call this the Hutt valley express way.

Propose a nomenclature heading and mention that people locally call it, Hutt road, or SH2, or the upper part, the Upper Hutt bypass, something like river road etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.73.230.51 (talk) 09:16, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that "expressway" refers to the upgraded section of road from Petone to Dowse Drive (the D2P project). The word defines the type of road and is not the name of it. The names used by locals are:

Ngauranga - Petone Hutt Road

Petone - Silverstream Western Hutt Road

Silverstream - Brown Owl River Road

Collectively they form SH2.

Some people incorrectly refer to Ngauranga - Silverstream as the Hutt Motorway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.57.139.43 (talk) 01:34, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Article

[edit]

I recently changed the name of the article back to 'Hutt Valley Expressway'. Although this is a very rarely used name, I think that it's the best name for the article because, in the absence of an official name, it describes what the article is about; the expressway that runs through the Hutt Valley. It's not necessary to have separate articles for the three roads that make up the expressway, but as a whole they warrant an article. The name before this; 'State Highway 2 in the Hutt Valley' seemed inappropriate because the name suggests its just about a section of State Highway within a certain area, which would not warrant it's own article. An expressway, however, does warrant an article so I changed the name to show that the article is about an expressway rather than just a section of highway.
