Please remove the {notable tags} --Smcbuet (talk) 04:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a private organization under IEEE, and not under BUET. Why on earth would it be merged with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.193.170.18 (talk) 03:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{mergewith }} Bilkent IEEE Student Branch and IEEE NITC both have their own articles since 2006. They were not merged with their parent institution. This is only a student organization. You can't merge the article about a student organization with a university. --Smcbuet (talk) 03:45, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:OTHERSTUFF. This branch is not notable enough to justify an encyclopedic article. If you disagree, we can always take it to WP:AFD to get detailed opinion from other editors. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 05:59, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The branch has been mentioned in the national daily of Bangladesh more than 4 times. (I'll add the rest of the two references) And it also won a number of international awards. It is not notable is a unfortunate mistatement. If wikipedia has different policies for third world countries for inclusion of articles, you should then take it for AFD. Other wise I think it is just fine to be a stub. All we need to do is to feed more information. I know a 2-3 active wikipedians. Just give it 2-3 weeks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.193.170.18 (talk) 06:13, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was merely surprised why the other pages are not tagged for merging, and only pages from BUET/Bangladesh is being tagged. That's all. Sorry for any misunderstanding —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.193.170.18 (talk) 06:15, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear smc, thousands of student chapters win such awards each year. There are exactly 3 articles on student chapters of IEEE (including this article) and all of them are equally non-notable. Some of your "references" are from blogs, which are not reliable sources by any means, and hence not usable. Wikipedia does not have different policies for anyone ... it is the notability that counts. As for "mentioned in national newspapers", there are wikipedians who have been mentioned in multiple national newspapers several times, but that alone don't make them notable or encyclopedic. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 06:22, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should be merged with BUET[edit]

This article can be merged with the BUET's article. I am thinking of a way to merge (so that it does not hamper the flow of contents of the BUET article) Sajid, you also try to figure out how to accommodate this. Sarwar Erfan (talk) 09:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, why is the IEEE logo gone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smcbuet (talkcontribs) 03:46, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am thinking about it too[edit]

Ok, I think I agree the merge. It can be under a section called societies and clubs in BUET. BUET drama society can also be focused there.
