Capitialisation

[edit]

Herbfur&Admanny Please refer to MOS:TMRULES for rules regarding capitalisation of trademarks of Wikipedia. Per the MOS, the device should be referred to as "iPhone 12 Mini". You may also refer to the iPad Mini article for reference.--17jiangz1 (talk) 20:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@17jiangz1:I'm pretty sure those rules apply when the trademark is otherwise capitalized, so such capitalization fits with the company standard. In this case, the company consistently refers to the device and trademark as lowercase, so I think we should do the same (like macOS is in lowercase and not stylized as MacOS). Let's not move this page until we can arrive at a consensus on this, although I don't know if that will matter in the long run because this page is already being proposed for merging (which I support). In the case of macOS, "Trademarks in "CamelCase" are a judgment call" which is also how the word "iPhone" is treated. Even if merged, the inline styling of the name should be consistent. Also see IPod Nano and IPod Mini which are also capitalised, and thus WP:CONSISTENT would also apply.--17jiangz1 (talk) 20:10, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In this case, I remove my opposition to referring to it with capitalized letters. I'm not sure if moving will be worth it, though, since the merge seems imminent. Herbfur (talk) 20:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Herbfur: Give it a while and the merge proposal seems like a prime candidate to be closed early per WP:SNOW.--17jiangz1 (talk) 20:18, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@17jiangz1:Well, the page has already been moved so I guess that closes this discussion. Thanks for raising the issue and pointing me to the Wikipedia policies. Herbfur (talk) 20:20, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --17jiangz1 (talk) 20:22, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
