---Yeditor Reservation item has been deleted. This is not a forum to voice protests against reservations. Racists can go elsewhere

It will be awesome to use a world view perspective when editing this or any related articles.

Do we need this?

Instead of the para below, maybe this article should have a brief write up about fees and governing structure.

The IIMs were in the news during 2004-05 on account of a controversy that arose when Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Human Resources Development Minister of the Government of India asked the institutes to reduce the fees that they charge by more than 50%. The stated intention of the Minister was to enable the students from the less-privileged classes to be able to afford the fees of such premier institutes of higher learning. But since his attempts at reducing the fees of the institutes would have affected the autonomy enjoyed by these autonomous institutions, this action raised alarm bells amongst the academics as well as in the industry. There was wide-spread media coverage and discussions and a public interest litigation filed by Sandeep Parekh and two others, in the Supreme Court of India brought the issue to a standstill. Mr. Narayana Murthy was one of the many industry stalwarts who supported the IIMs in their public battle for survival against the onslaught. Eventually, post a change in government following general elections in the country, the newly appointed HRD Minister withdrew the controversial missive. The original fee structure is now being continued for subsequent batches.
