Pattern

ive noticed a definite pattern in the 4th generation 2nd stage starters. this is that they all are based on entities from legend or religeon. this is: Torterra = Genbu, Infernape = Sun Wukong or Hindu god mentioned on page, and Empoleon = Posiden. i believe this should be mentioned in each Pokemon's article.

It is simply a coincidence, and even thinking about it presents more confirmation of its dubiousness. Posiden was never associated with steel. In fact, Kyogre would represent Posiden better. Sun Wukong = Goku... Genbu represents winter season as well. A grass type pokemon was based on the chinese constellation of north and winter... --RavensIllusion 23:47, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Gouakzuru's english name (sorry if thats not how its spelled)

i am not completly positive about this but i think his name will end in char maybe something like flamechar or burnchar. Actually, the zaru in its name is the word saru, which means "monkey". Anyway, extrapolating similarities like that is considered speculation, which is not allowed on Wikipedia (see also Leafia, Glacia, Booburn).—M_C_Y_1008 (^talk/_contribs) 16:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I believe the Diamond and Pearl game will both come out this summer, when that happens, then we can all agree on what the English name is. I don't make the rules, I really do agree that what more than one fansites says is good enough. But that's still not good enough, I would find that good enough if I made the rules, but I don't. Because the card is only visible on a fansite, which could very well have created it as a mockup. If it's on the official site or the official press release, then the name is settled. It's on a fansite making claims corroborated by Nintendo. (Note that many fansites are reporting the same thing, often verbatim, citing it to Nintendo.) Goku? Really?

Is it necessary to speculate that Infernape is a 'tribute' to Sun Wukong? True. It's a monkey. That's about as far as the resemblance goes. Arcanine isn't based on Lassie. Turtwig isn't based on the Ninja Turtles. If Sun Wukong had been on fire, lost his crown and other trademark items, I would be more willing to let the comment slide. At the very least, the two references to this similarity should be synced up. One says he looks like Son Goku, the other farther down spells it Sun Wukong.

I've never seen anyone draw the same conclusion from Mankey. But even if some people do think of him, that certainly doesn't mean that Infernape was designed as a 'tribute' to Sun Wukong or even with the character in mind at all. Goukazaru is phonetically similar for starters, with the Go and Ka, to Goku. Not much, but we're just getting started. Then, obviously, take his aesthetics- he's a fighting monkey with golden decorations/armour that resembles Sun Wukong's- not to mention his white fur distribution also mirrors clothing. Now, if you even look at his moves, there's stuff that points him out as being like Sun Wukong. Calm Mind is kinda weird for such a wild pokémon, except for the fact that Sun Wukong achieved enlightenment in Journey to the West, and thus an homage could learn this sort of move. Forgot to say, he's also not the first Fire based Wukong homage. Hanumachine in Megaman Zero (image and some more info) is pretty similar to Infernape- fire using monkey, but he also has an extending staff which is clearly supposed to be the Ru Yi Bang. if you can provide a reference, ie "Infernape has the largest speed stat of any other Fire Pokemon, making it the fastest Fire type Pokemon of all the known species so far."
