[edit]The term "intrinsic brightness" used here is essentially another term for luminosity, which is covered well in another article. It's generally better to use "brightness" to mean apparent brightness specifically (i.e. how bright an object appears to an observer at some distance), while luminosity means the power emitted by the object, an intrinsic property of the object itself independent of distance. In my opinion, the term "intrinsic brightness" just leads to confusion and should generally be avoided. Moreover, the definition given here is confusing: "how bright a star would be without the effects of distance" doesn't really make sense because one can't define a star's apparent brightness without considering its distance from the observer. It's much clearer and simpler to just use the term "luminosity", and the existing articles on luminosity and absolute magnitude are the appropriate places to cover this topic.
