Encyclopedic Tone, Sources

A strong effort has been made to write this article with an encyclopedic tone: factual, organized, and based mostly on non-primary sources. Some of the sources contained hype that was stripped away. I removed (commented out) a lot of stuff that was either inaccurate, outdated, or irrelevant

I removed a lot of the formerly titled "Natural History" section as either irrelevant, inaccurate (about the subsurface of the then-undeveloped Kalani Kai property and not the surface of the Kalani Oceanside Retreat) or outdated (weather patterns and rainfall are completely and utterly different than they were in 1997). Citation problems

Two of the citations go to the wrong link: number 3 (labelled "Ke Ola magazine"), and 20 (labelled "State Senate"). The State Senate goof is particularly egregious. Please fix, thanks. Softlavender (talk) 13:24, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Introduction

The changed introduction contains the link to a subdomain of a deprecated website (see https://kalani.com/ with the message: This IP address is deprecated and is no longer able to serve the requested domain). Also the word ostensibly does not sound very neutral. Therefore I asked Softlavender for the reasons. --ThT (talk) 11:43, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi THT, I linked the actual live message rather than an archive of a dead link. It's not clear from the message that the closure is permanent, since the wording says "Temporary" and "currently". Softlavender (talk) 22:58, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Softlavender, it's not about the words but the sequence of events and the corresponding announcements:

• In May Kalani closed its operations temporarily, stating "Recent earthquake activity on Kilauea’s south flank and lava eruptions in the Leilani Estates Subdivision are affecting air quality", cf. Temporary Campus Closure as of Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Wayback Machine (archived 20 August 2018)
• The following statement from June 2nd announced, that "all operations are indefinitely suspended", cf. Kalani Lava Update: June 2018 at the Wayback Machine (archived 20 August 2018)

https://register.kalani.com/ links to a subdomain of a deprecated website (see https://kalani.com/ with the message: This IP address is deprecated and is no longer able to serve the requested domain.). Therefore this link could become unreachable anytime. Moreover, the announcement dated June 2nd contains additional information compared with the one dated May 7, 2018. According to Wikipedia:Link rot the use of archived information is an accepted procedure. @Peaceray also gave good reasons for including archived information (this may be referenced when the page changes). Ah, OK, I see your point. I think the best plan is to keep the live link (the original May announcement) and adding the follow-up indefinite-closure June announcements, one live on Facebook and one archived on the website. I've now done that. Softlavender (talk) 01:27, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
