For hotel room locks, are combinations routinely changed between guests? If so, how does the lock learn the new combination - wifi?

Most of these locks are networked. I am r000t (talk) 13:46, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What might be their power source? I checked carefully for wires. Through the hinges? Or maybe they change hundreds of batteries each year? Gil (talk) 00:41, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Types of Lock

[edit]

Perhaps they should be categorised into different sensing mechanisms - RFID, Magnetic Strip, Mechanical? Willh26 (talk) 20:39, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done I have added 3 different categories of card lock - RFID is split into 2... passive (no power source required in card) and active (power source in card required). I have never seen an active RFID chip in a card, so have left this category out as a card would have to be pretty big to fit a battery in as well! Willh26 (talk) 08:33, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
