Daniel O. Klute
[edit]Here is what I could find about the crater's namesake:
- Daniel O. Klute (1921-1964) was a rocket scientist and chemical engineer who worked at Rocketdyne. In 1954 he was listed as assistant to the Chief Engineer, Liquid Rocket Division. In 1962 he was assigned to work on the Saturn F-1 engine, which was having combustion instability problems, and was "largely responsible" for the solution.
The F-1 was used in the Project Apollo moon landings, which is very likely why the crater was named after him. He certainly died at a relatively young age though.— RJH (talk) 22:48, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
