Talk:Leukotomy
So I still have no freakin' idea what a lobotomy is supposed to do, or why it became popular.
- Try Psychosurgery.
Pi
[edit]In the movie Pi, Max is not attempting to perform a lobotomy on himself. He is attempting trepanation to relieve his stress. Just letting you know why I removed that reference! BettyAnn 23:01, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Frances Farmer
[edit]I removed the reference to Frances Farmer as both that article and the Walter Freeman article allege that it is an urban legend and that she was never lobotomised. Other sources, however, such as this one suggest that it did happen and that there were even photographs. Perhaps someone who knows better could confirm? -- Blorg 10:04, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Elliott Valenstein
[edit]70.90.179.221 17:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC) added reference to author and book. Thought it appropriate. Enjoyed the book.
Kennedy
[edit]Hello - This article says that Rosemary Kennedy had frontal lobe damage not do to surgical leukotomy, but the Rosemary Kennedy article says it was. Given the situation, I'm guessing this article is wrong, but I thought I would check to see if anyone knew different. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 19:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Labotomy
[edit]If 'labotomy' is the more common word used for this procedure, surely it should be the key heading with Leukotomy redirecting to Labotomy? Davidbod 11:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Do you mean Lobotomy or Labotomy? I've only ever heard of Lobotomy. --Perimosocordiae 02:39, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant lobotomy in both cases, of course. Davidbod 14:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Walter Freeman's medical license
[edit]I am deleting the sentence:
- "Walter Freeman's services fell out of fashion, and he eventually lost his medical license when one of his patients died."
This is not supported by the account in Jack El-Hai's book The Lobotomist; he mentions only that Freeman lost his surgical priveleges at the hospital where this occurred. --01:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Lobotomies in Popular Culture
[edit]This section is getting to be an dumping ground for every work that even mentions the word 'lobotomy'. I am culling this down to include only works with more substantial content. --Ogdred 01:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
