Comment[edit]

Why is Run under "Minor Characters?" She's just as important as Saki Tenjouin. D: Because I felt different, I replaced a chief character —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.115.244.117 (talk) 13:12, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ren/Run is probably a semi-major character, as is Saki. They appear to be major and used consistantly but aren't as important or crucial as characters such as Lala, Lito, Haruna, Yami or Yui. Ren was probably a bit more major in the first year of the series but has been demoted since he was put in another class and Run became a cheap ripoff of Ran from Urusei Yatsura. Unless Ren/Run does something that makes them become more important or a part of the main group, they remain in the "Minor" group. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:28, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The character descriptions probably need an overhaul. I've attempted to update and rearrange most of the character descriptions, noting that most of them seem to be updated periodically by others in a "tacked-on" manner (due to the series still running). There's also an excessive use of brackets, though I myself used lots of brackets due to the current structure. I'll probably attempt to do an overhaul on it this weekend but I would certainly appreciate the help from those who helped put it all together to begin with and anyone else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Damike2k (talkcontribs) 00:28, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganization[edit]

I noticed a couple other To-LOVE pages on other Wiki showing the characters split slightly differently into "The Yuki Family" (Rito, Mikan), "The Deviluke Empire" (Lala & her family), "Other Aliens" (Ren/Run, Golden Darkness, other invaders), "Other Students" (Haruna, Saki, Yuki & such) and "Other Characters". (though I don't know about the "Yuki Family" one, I think that they were with other characters and the first three were just Rito, Lala & Haruna) Maybe that might be a better organizational style than just making it "Major" and "Minor" characters. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 16:21, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, do that. It is currently in only two sections because I just moved the character section from the main To Love-Ru article without making any edits. --staka (TC) 22:01, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's best to keep things simple. Major and Minor might be too simplified considering the appearances of relatively minor characters coming in and out of the story a lot to really question whether or not they're minor. Supporting Characters is probably a better title. Organizing by Students and Staff, Aliens, and Minor Characters might be best useful also. The list needs major cleanup and some group images as well. I can do that when I have time. Fox816 (talk) 22:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I organized it under five catagories: Yuki Family (Rito's family), Planet Deviluke (Lala & her family, Peke, Zastin), Other Aliens (Ren/Run, Golden Darkness), Sainan High (Haruna, Yui, Saki) and "Other". If you have any other adjustments or any other characters, then please make suggestions. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:12, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be a few absent minor characters in the characters page (e.g. the Principal, the tennis coach etc). Some of them appear more often than some of the characters already listed, such as the King of Deviluke. Should short bios be added for them or are they too insignificant to the plot to bother with? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Damike2k (talkcontribs) 14:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A note for reorganization, rather than simply bold the character names I am using the equals sign so that they will appear in the table of contents. This allows our redirects to be made more specific. If anyone has a problem with this take it up here, but I think it enhances browsing this merged page. Why is nothing said about Yuusaki Riko?[edit]

Yuusaki Riko first appeared in the Manga Chapter 100 Page 22. She gave her name to Saruyama before they go out on a Date in chapter 106 page 7!! Why do you say nothing about her in the list of To Love Ru characters? Saruyama speaks about her in a later chapter. I am sure we have not seen the last of her in the manga. And I am right!!She had a brief 2 page appearance in the manga chapter 131 page 2 & 3 and in the upcoming OVA DVD's Thank you for adding her... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.236.245 (talk) 03:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC) Thank you for addi[reply]

Black Cat equivilents[edit]

The most obvious is Golden Darkness = Eve. This is the number one tribute, nothing gets closer, period, plus she's a main character. Next I would assume is this Kyoko who I haven't actually seen yet. There was an anime on TV in the anime about a magical girl killing things with fire, is that her? I didn't catch the reference. Zastin = Creed is a REALLY loose comparison I think. I've found this guy to have more in common with a guy like Gourry Gabriev to be honest. Creed was murderous, had a fine sense of direction, did not wear armour, had different hair, carried a rose, didn't protect anyone, and he had a different sword. About the only thing I can see these two having in common is a sword and looking handsome. It's pretty vague. So anyway, is it those 3? Or are there others? This list describes it as a 'common theme' but is it? Is 3 common (more like 2)? Tyciol (talk) 00:57, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ren and Naruto[edit]

I've been thinking, there are sort of some similarities going on here. Ren/Run and Naruto/Naruko can shift gender although one's for real and against his will (more akin to Ranma) whereas the other's an illusion. Ren/Naruto, is chasing after a pink-haired girl (Lala/Sakura) who pines after someone for his perceived bravery (Riko/Sasuke) who has a whole bunch of girls after him. He trains incredibly hard to surpass him, yet despite this and having a much longer history with the girl, she still doesn't really acknowledge him. This, and the accidental kiss they both share in the first episode both pairs of characters meet, sure is odd eh? Even though Naruto is made by different people, could this be a very vague tribute to them just like they're tributing Black Cat which they did create? Split Nana and Momo into separate articles[edit]

They are independent enough to have their own sections. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.134.98.77 (talk) 21:11, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

well it looks like they are going to be with to love ru darkness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.9.70.254 (talk) 15:39, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Character Comparisons: Relevance?[edit]

Is there any purpose for the incessant comparisons to characters from other manga & anime? Such comparisons are entirely matters of opinion, not fact; and they are in any case completely irrelevant. This is an article about the characters from To Love-Ru, not a platform for endless prattle about their similarities (real or imagined) to characters from any other manga or anime. This article would be greatly improved by removing all of this extraneous material. FireHorse (talk) 00:45, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Unsourced claims"[edit]

That's a strange edit summary to give, considering:

  1. this rationalization was used to delete an edit that had replaced claims about why Haruna's role was reduced and who was right in the dispute with a neutral characterization, less than an hour after it was made,
  2. this was apparently not an issue when specific unsourced claims about both the cause and effect and who was supposedly right and wrong in the matter had been left in place for several months, and
  3. >95% of the the article would need to be similarly deleted if this rationalization were being nonselectively enforced.

So be it. There are many reasons Wikipedia has earned a reputation for dubious feigned scholarship that drives away productive editors, and its institutional protection of selective rules-lawyering is pretty high on the list. 76.22.25.102 (talk) 22:57, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First off, thank you for your good faith edits in trying to improve this article. Your well-versed style and clarity is certainly what is needed for a under-maintained article such as this one. I agree that the entire article needs to be entirely revamped in addition to citing references to back up many of the characters points, as is the article so appropriately tagged for needing. The dream of every article on Wiki is to achieve featured status. Hopefully in time that will be done but for now we can just do our best and keep editing.
In regards to your edit and the entire section I removed from the article, keeping it simple, it is basically speculation. Before removing the content I did a search for reliable sources regarding the claim that 'the character of Haruna was based off the ex-wife of the author and that her role was gradually diminished in the series due to legal problems stemming from their divorce'. All I could turn up was fluff on a whole bunch of manga/anime forums. Nothing concrete. Nothing from reliable sources. Nothing published. Nothing to cite or reference. As well since the claim is in regards to a living person, as you had justified your edit citing WP:BLP of which necessitates that you must cite a reliable source before making such inclusions, I had to remove it. If the initial edit that placed the claim into this article had been caught earlier, it would have been reverted for the same reasons. I apologize for my lack of omniscience. Some things just slip by and we encounter them when they are elucidated later in time.
By all means do not discourage from being bold in your edits but keep in mind that Wikipedia strives for accuracy and verifiability. As such, proper referencing must be made where appropriate. Fox816 (talk) 00:21, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect translation[edit]

I'm quite sure that Zastin's minions are Maur and Buwattsu (ブワッツ) (not Smutts (スマッツ), as the page now reads) for reference, see e.g. To-LOVE-Ru, Volume 11, page 80. And, by the way, Tiger and Panther's Japanese name is incorrect too; it should be Pantaa (パンター) and Tiigaa (ティーガー), not Pansaa (パンサー) and Taigaa (タイーガー). See To-LOVE-Ru, Volume 10, pag. 145. -- Kamina

Independence of the protagonists[edit]

Rito, Lala and Haruna should have their own articles In Wikipedia in spanish they have their articles

Semicolon use[edit]

... in this article was obnoxious. A quick glance reveals two outright misuses, which I fixed, but considering where they occurred there are probably more. In *no* version of English is it acceptable to join two wholly unrelated sentences together with a semicolon. In fact, if they are different enough, they don't even belong in the same paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.211.199.229 (talk) 21:47, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting proposal[edit]

I propose that sections of the character list be split into a separate articles: Rito Yuki, Mikan Yuki, Yui Kotegawa and Eve (manga character). These articles would be their pages of its own if any Japanese or English sources are available. 184.147.23.235 (talk) 15:26, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

adding new stuff under Rito's section if I can.[edit]

I'm thinking about adding some stuff not noted (mainly stuff in the sequel series darkness). after I've added the extra info, anybody can freely edit it to add more context. MarioFan324234 (talk) 21:35, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peke's gender.[edit]

In a new chapter that came out this month, a new character is introduced named "Maruru", who is considered Peke's little sister (specifically called so). Maruru calls Peke "onii-sama", meaning that Peke is actually her big brother in comparison. That means Peke should be referred to as male, not female. (Peke does use "watashi" as a pronoun, but it seems to be more because it has the mind of an adult, since "watashi" isn't actually limited to women; it's just that boys and men will use "boku" and "ore" in media.) 138.59.131.67 (talk) 22:53, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rito's own article[edit]

I find it odd that most of the main characters have their own character articles (with the exception of Kotegawa) yet Rito, the main protagonist, does not. 107.201.132.103 (talk) 06:50, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
