Talk:List of characters in G.I. Joe

Since there wasn't a page listing all the characters from the series, I decided to make one.

Its not that great, but I, and hopefully others wll continously improve it.

I googled briefly, and found a page that list a lot of information on characters from the television series, as well as episodes from there, so added an external link to it. Have to look around for comic book list.

I'm finding a lot of information about characters scattered about on various pages, including http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_VII Why not give that page a more reasonable name? Dream Focus

just did a bit more work[edit]

7/20/06 9:12am just did some additional work, adding names from an external site, in alphabetical order, and making sure the links hit any wikipedia pages that existed.

If anyone sees this, please add onto it whenever you feel like it. Dream Focus

I failed to live up to the standards of the community. Oh woe is me..[edit]

We have this message now. [quote] To meet Wikipedia's quality standards, this article or section may require cleanup. Please discuss this issue on the talk page, or replace this tag with a more specific message. Editing help is available. This article has been tagged since August 2006. [/quote]

So, we're here on the talk page, if anyone has bothered to come here. If anyone knows what I did wrong, please don't hesitate to post. I just wanted a quick list of all the characters, and links to more information about them. Dream Focus

  • I just wanted to say that I'm not sure what went wrong with this page -- it said it was deleted but was not showing up as deleted in the typical fashion. I hit "edit this page," and then clicked submit and it was back. Very strange. In any case, I imagine that cleanup is necessary because at the moment this is just a long list of names. Usually list like this contain more information (see for example List of characters in the Harry Potter books). It also doesn't quite follow our usual naming conventions (perhaps renaming it to something like List of characters in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series?) But in any case I don't see anything horribly wrong with this list; I'm not sure a cleanup tag is necessary. --Fastfission 14:22, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The cleanup message was removed by a bot, we meeting whatever standards the first bot didn't find. Probably didn't have all the links laid out properly. As for the deletion thing, I'm hoping that was just some sort of crazy bug. Scary. Dream Focus 20:52, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Characters are found in both comics, television series, and toyline[edit]

Actually, that website listed a lot of detailed and interesting information on the characters.

This is a list of all of the characters, them appearing in the comics, cartoon series, and toyline. It doesn't just include things from the cartoon.

How do I rename the artical?[edit]

You are right about the name of the artical.

How do I change its name? Do I have to just create a new one and copy things over to it?

Should I mention that the series was a sucessful line of toys, which was promoted also in a cartoon and comic book series? Dream Focus 14:51, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question about my link.[edit]

Dream Focus 15:00, 16 September 2006 (UTC) http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/enc-main.html This page then links to information about not just the characters, but the vehicals, various groups, locations, etc.[reply]

At the top list just to the character list, found here, http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/carchive.html which I believe is most relevant to this artical.

Hmm... maybe I should just link to the character list, not the page that has links to other things as well.

Any opinions?

Need to add descriptions by names.[edit]

I'm looking at the many character list out there for other series, such as the transformers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_Transformers_comics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_Transformers:_Cybertron

I thought just the name would be fine, and if you remembered someone you were interested in, you'd click the name and read more about them. But a short description by their name is standard, so I'll work on adding that. Dream Focus

General Hawk is not Toma Hawk[edit]

Originally released as Hawk, and then later as General Hawk, in 2000 Hasbo failed to renew their trademark claim to the name and he had to be released as "General Tomahawk". Thats why I changed the name to General Hawk, and added a link to that wikipedia page. They always just called him Hawk, and he isn't native American, does have a passion for stone fighting axes, nor has the word "Toma" anywhere in his name. So I decided to refer to him by his original proper name, and not the idiotic "Toma Hawk" name. I'm sure all fans will agree. Dream Focus
