Collider, not confounder

Despite the references given in this page, low birth weight is better conceptualized as a collider (common effect) of smoking and of other causes. Conditioning on low birth weight therefore produced a spurious negative correlation among smoking and the other causes. These other causes having a greater impact on infant mortality, a spurious protective effect of smoking appears negative (that is, a negative correlation between smoking and infant mortality). 109.22.73.28 (talk) 10:18, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
