WikiProject Medicine UCF College of Medicine Course[edit]

Hello everyone, I plan to edit this article as part of my WikiProject Medicine course in medical school. The following is an outline of my plan for the article:

Lead section - I will build a lead section summarizing the main ideas of each below content section.

Classification - This is currently in the lead section; I will make this its own section and format it to enhance readability.

Causes - The causes are well explored in the current article. In fact, the "Environmental factors" sub-section dominates the article. I aim to fact-check and parse this sub-section so that its coverage is proportional to its importance to the topic as a whole.

Diagnosis and Screening may not particularly apply to this topic, though perhaps certain aspects of prenatal care (e.g., estimated fetal weight) may be worth mentioning.

Management - I will add this section, and will add sub-sections for each subclass (i.e., VLBW, ELBW).

Prognosis - I will expand this section, focusing on mortality as well as long-term risk of other outcomes.

Epidemiology - I will expand this section, including trends over time.

I welcome comments and feedback, and I'm looking forward to this endeavor! Simplebutpowerful 18:23, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review[edit]

Simplebutpowerful has done an excellent job revamping this article. It is easy to read and avoids excessive jargon and specific medical terminology. Although some sentences do cross the suggested limit of 26 words they are easy to read and the entire article flows well. The organization is adherent to the manual of style and sections are of similar lengths with subsections well organized within. The "Classification" section has one suggested edit - those are all categorizations of low birth weight, not just birth weight. Although I'm not 100% sure I believe you could be categorized as high birth weight as well. Lastly, many of the resources added are systematic reviews and within the past 5 years. Although there is a plethora of sources that are older and not reviews or textbooks, most of the updated resources now are. I believe the overall quality of the article has improved greatly as well as the quality of the sources used. Simplebutpowerful has done an excellent job adding to our collective medical knowledge through his work here!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bdhillon94 (talkcontribs) 14:43, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
