Halo

[edit]

more people are looking up the character Master Chief (Halo) than Master Chief Petty Officer. As such, this page should redirect to the article on Halo's Master Chief. --jonasaurus 01:11, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Added dab note to Master Chief (Halo), and redirected Master Chief. FWIW, I don't see the point of having a dab page for only two articles. -- Dave C.talk | Esperanza 05:45, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect or Disamg? If Redirect then which?

[edit]

I am curious of what the policy is on redirects that both may have merit for. Although I don't know how many users are intending to get to which article, whether it be the military rank or fictional character, I would guess more are looking up the Master Chief the scifi character. Is there any way to get some data on that? I will revert to the disambigous page which directs to both pages instead of a simple redirect since it isn't stated which article has more traffic and therefore more entitled to the redirect. I believe that is a fair compromise until some numbers can be put on it. TheSittingDuck 23:55, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My vote is on redirect to Master Chief Petty Officer, because halo is become a has-been game, the article about the rank/title already has the game mentioned in the popular culture section. 71.116.91.80 (talk) 22:40, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ithink keeping this page as a disambig is better, esp. with the upcoming movie/TV show/ whatever the studios decide on. besides, I think of Halo first, not the military rank. ThuranX (talk) 04:53, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) - Agree with ThuranX. No substantial reason to get rid of the page since there are other uses. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:57, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I direct you to nya and nya. So according to google (and yes, I know this is a horrible test, but I have a better one further down), about 80% of web references to Master Chief are probably in reference to Halo. Or let's look at actual page views instead. Master Chief Petty Officer was viewed 9239 times this month [1] Master Chief (Halo) was viewed 55160 times [2]. It stands to reason, then, that Halo's Master Chief is at least on the same order of notability as the pre-existing one, so redirecting Master Chief to that is simply rediculous. That you'd call Halo a has-been is also pretty shocking. Someguy1221 (talk) 04:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should remain a disambiguation page as is. The notability is the kicker for me, but it's also logical as the title refers to two popular entities. It's a little bewildering that part of the motivation for turning this into a redirect is because a user believes the game Halo is old. Wisdom89 (T / C) 05:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it should stay a disambiguation page. While Master Chief (Halo) may be more notable to us computer-savy people, it's not going to be to everyone, and it seems that Master Chief Petty Officer is also a commonly used term. Since it's not clear, it seems that it should stay a disambiguation page. -- Natalya 12:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep the dab page. "Master Chief" in regards to a video game is a only well-known meaning to a certain group of people (I'm not one) and there's no reason to fight over notability and primary usage - just disambiguate them. SlackerMom (talk) 13:10, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, leave it be. There's no substantial problem to solve here. --AndrewHowse (talk) 15:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
