I have the impression that the McMahon letters were translated into Arabic and that the translation was of dubious accuracy. If that is the case, then it would be valuable if someone more knowledgeable than I could explain the provenance of this version, a reference to an Arabic version, and point out where the alleged mis-translation is, at least for the key passage.

While this might seem overly finicky, given the prominence of the assurances made by McMahon, clarifying exactly how there might have been misunderstandings, especially from a relatively objective source, would be a great aid to someone trying to understand this aspect of history. 216.31.225.194 (talk) 18:29, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
