I'm not an authority, but it looks to me like the External Links refer to the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is distinct from the Medal of Freedom. This page says that some 20,000 Medals of Freedom were awarded. The External links show just one or a few per year and none during the Korean War, when the Medal of Freedom was definitely being awarded.

Hi! Although the external links use the photo of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the awards listed are of the earlier Medal of Freedom established in 1945. The Presidential Medal of Freedom was only established in 1963, while the awards listed are all in the 1950's.
The list only shows selected awards for each year, hence the small number of awards shown.
Hope this clarifies.

Have never edited before. Would like to edit/add: Exec Order 9586, 1945: July 6, 1945, The establishment of the Medal of Freedom Exec Order 10336, 1952: April 3, 1952, Amendments to Exec Order 9586, establishing the Medal of Freedom (1945) Exec Order 11085, 1963: Feb 22, 1963, Exec Orders 9586 & 10336 are amended, reestablished as the Presidential Medal of Freedom Would my addition of these edits/adds be appropriate/welcome?
