Photo of King Tom statue

[edit]

Propose replacing the photo of King Tom's statue with this one. The statue was apparently moved to Dalmeny House sometime prior to 1987 (at least that's the earliest Geograph photo I can find of the statue in Scotland). I think this image is clearer and less grainy. There are also alternative images available at Commons:Category:King Tom - Joseph Boehm. Kelly hi! 12:19, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The statue marking the grave of King Tom was moved from Mentmore to Dalmeny in 1977. The remains of the stallion buried beneath were not disturbed. Therefore the photograph showing the statue above the grave of the founding stallion of the subject is more apt than a photograph taken some 600 miles hence. Ah, found a reference.[1] Apparently Lord Rosebery refused several offers for the statue, then placed it in storage at Gorebridge before re-erecting it in 1981. In any case, I have no objection to retaining the old photo with the new description. I am curious as to whether any memorial remains at Mentmore Towers to mark the site. Maybe will look the next time I am in Bucks. Kelly hi! 13:41, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All equine memorials have been removed. The only memorial there now is to a child of the present owner. Giano (talk) 13:47, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
