Microsoft is clearly taking a different direction from portal, hence dropping the name sharepoint portal. What they are creating is a stack for knowledge workers and a set of applications upon that stack.

Well, nobody has disagreed with you here. I'm going to remove the dispute tag. DouglasHeld 11:59, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release date ala wiki?

[edit]

How much of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 has been released? When will it contain functionality for wikis? --Ancheta Wis 08:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have exactly the same question as Ancheta but I would also add the question, when was MOSS 2007 actually released? Wikikob 11:44, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MOSS 2007, which icluded wiki functionality (though it has a syntax quite different from MediaWiki), has already been released. --soumtalk 11:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, WSS 3.0 is where the Wiki functionality lies. MOSS 2007 being built on top of WSS 3.0 simply leverages it and makes it available. --Cornelius J. van Dyk
MOSS 2007 and WSS were released to volume license customers (i.e. business users) in November 2006 and there was a wider launch as part of the Office 2007 and Vista launches in January 2007.

Rewrite in non-marketese?

[edit]

I hit this page looking for a concise, clear, non-marketroid description of this product. I'm disappointed with the results. Is there a tagging mode for "rewrite in non-marketese" for Wikipedia? This article desperately needs same. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.140.1.25 (talk) 21:04, 13 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Rewrite in non-marketese V2?

[edit]

I agree that this is difficult for non-experts! Is MS SharePoint a CMS?

Yes, MS SharePoint is a CMS. Curb Safe Charmer 14:23, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Especially if you consider that CMS 2002 was merged with SharePoint to give us MOSS 2007 --Cornelius J. van Dyk

Misleading tag (June 2007)

[edit]

There is confusion about what features are part of Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and what comes with the purchase of additional Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) licenses. The WSS is freely available to download and install on Windows 2003. MOSS is a product that must be purchased. Notably, RSS and Wiki are in the WSS. This Microsoft link has the differences. See also this FTP article. I will work to try and re-arrange as best I can. Group29 15:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MOSS 2K7 includes a superset of features of SPS. As such they are not mutually exclusive. Since they are independent offerings, IMO both articles should list their features. Maybe a section highlighting the differences would be good. --soum talk 15:38, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MOSS Versions

[edit]

Is it true that the product will be released with four different available versions, or possibly more? If so can someone please write the versions that are available and a breif description of the role each is meant to fill?

I believe this still needs to be done. SarcasticDwarf 14:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
