“Lights and Brights 24/7”[edit]

I’m an 85 yr old former biker from Marin Co, CA, who rode those fabulous hills and trails for 60 some years. I never, ever rode without a yellow jacket or vest, yellow on my helmet, maybe yellow gloves and socks, etc., and a blinking light - every time. Why? Because drivers don’t see bikers - even in broad daylight - even if they have on the hottest Tour outfits, unless they’re bright. I’ll bet 25 times at a stop a driver said to me in sunshine, “I wish every biker wore bright clothes and a light - I just don’t see them!” As drivers you know that’s true. So do I. When I tell that to bikers they give me the finger and the f word. In 2021 nearly 1000 cyclists were killed, and many more badly injured in vehicle accidents. I propose to your fine organization that you start a campaign of “Lights and Brights 24/7”. Push it with the bicycle stores with posters, placards. Educate riders that as much as they hate the cars the cars often don’t see them! It might be tough on the riders who bought fancy new, dark outfits, but it’s their butts that will be bleeding on the road or worse, not the drivers’.

I’m sure you’ve studied this before, but the facts are obvious: BE SEEN!

Thanks for all you do.
