2005/06

This article needs a review of the 2005/06 season, which should be under ==2005/06== and before the ===Awards===. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fedgin (talkcontribs) 11:35, August 17, 2006 (UTC).

Restructuring

Hi all. I've restructured this article, according to the guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football. Please help expand the sections that are empty or lacking in content. Also, please discuss the proposal to merge the article on former players into the 'Noted players' section. Normally, this would only include players who have had a significant impact (e.g. played over 100 games), but with only one season under their belt, most/all former players can be included.

The idea of 'Noted players' is former players, rather than current players. Since there are few to choose from, I'd recommend posting all former players for the time being. Then, through time, the more famous of these ex-players can remain. I agree that the article I'm proposing to merge is too big and shouldn't contain any current players. Newcastle Breakers

The Jets ARE NOT the Breakers. Could someone sort this out.--203.59.250.41 23:17, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Trying, now. Got rid of all the blatantly obvious Breakers errors (records and honours, especially). Daniel Bryant 08:53, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Newcastle Jets.jpg

Image:Newcastle Jets.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:47, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Surely Coveny should go under the noted players list? One of the greatest Kiwi footballers ever!

Appearances

Are appearances in the Pre-Season Cup counted towards appearances/caps for the Newcastle Jets? Jared Wiltshire 04:37, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Squad list on players pages

Do people think that using {{AUS fb A-League NUJ}} at the bottom of our players pages would be better than the {{Newcastle Jets squad}} that is currently used? CCM and Sydney both use the former.
So basically you would see this

instead of this

see Restructuring section above. Pairadox 03:56, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Corrected the merge link u posted. I think we can pretty much delete that list of players page. Past players are listed on the past seasons page and are also in a jets players category. Jared Wiltshire 04:13, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
I'd suggest not moving them, and possibly turning them into a featured list (ie. List of Central Coast Mariners FC players and List of Queensland Roar FC players). Daniel 10:54, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Requested move

The result of the proposal was Move to Newcastle United Jets FC Duja 09:41, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Newcastle United JetsNewcastle Jets FC

There are three reasons for this move:

  1. The A-League and the Jets refer to themselves as the "Newcastle Jets FC" officially (see A-League table and NJ Privacy Policy.
  2. The Jets and the A-League have acknowledged as much, recently moving the official NJ page from http://www.newcastleunited.com.au/ to http://www.newcastlejets.com.au/ (and the A-League has updated the links to the NJ in all the clubs' headers).
  3. This naming will give it consistancy with all the other clubs (Adelaide United FC still follows the same format, where "United" = "Jets" = "Mariners" = "Roar" etc.). From what I understand from people I know at FFA, the Jets were asked to change their name because of the fact that it fell outside of the general style, and the FFA/A-League wanted consistancy with naming like they do with playing strips.

I have posted a link at the football (soccer) in Australia Wikiproject. I will be happy to fix all links if this move is executed. Cheers, Daniel 11:02, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Survey

Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
First sentence: The history of the Newcastle Jets FC...; they were called the "Newcastle United Jets" when they were initially formed (hence the header "Formation of the Newcastle United Jets FC"), but have since changed. The only time "United" is used in describing the new club is in that section, as it was their name when they were originally created. Since that time, they've had to change their name, but document the fact that NUJ was their original name. Daniel 11:52, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I think they are just using the abbreviation, it says "Newcastle United Jets FC (or Newcastle Jets for short)". We need a solid reference that the name has changed rather than just speculating. Perhaps email the club and ask them. Jared Wiltshire 12:20, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I emailed the club's media director, but no response as of yet. How about, as a compromise, "Newcastle United Jets FC"? It's what is used in the infobox, anyways. Daniel 03:11, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I agree with what AlbinoMonkey had to say below. We should just change it to "Newcastle United Jets FC" Jared Wiltshire 07:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I also agree with what AlbinoMonkey has to say. Newcastle United Jets FC is the current official name, as illustrated by AlbinoMonkey's point. Tom 10:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose The United is IMO a big part of the name, in that it ties them to the Newcastle United club (the same club) who played in the NSL. Like Jared said, it's in the logo, and the "Newcastle Jets" thing is just a shortening. (Sidenote: I am intrigued though that everything everywhere is leaving out the United part, but for me to be convinced that there has been an official change I'm waiting for a press release at least...). I am for the "Newcastle United Jets FC" change though. – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 06:20, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
