Canadian error

[edit]

The Prime Minister of Canada in 1884 was Sir John A. Macdonald. Sir Wilfrid Laurier was not prime minister until 1896 (and not knighted until 1897). Have corrected. Jeremicus rex (talk) 14:06, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Two days later the relief expedition entered the city"

[edit]

"Two days later the relief expedition entered the city to find that they were too late."

No-one from the relief expedition entered Khartoum. A small contingent approached Khartoum on Nile steamers but was met with heavy fire and withdrew.

COMPOSITION OF THE RELIEF EXPEDITION

"The Expedition was put under the command of General Garnet Wolseley, who had seen service in the Crimean War, Canada, the Gold Coast and the South African Wars. The Expedition was composed of two officers and 43 soldiers from each British Light Cavalry Regiment." What a tiny relief expedition ! Later it is said, more accurately, that the expedition was formed of 5400 men. A correction is needed. 2A01:CB08:A7:BC00:74AD:2DB3:967E:6751 (talk) 14:12, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
