33rd Brigade

The formation was initially created as a cavalry regiment of the OGPU under the NKVD of the USSR on June 30, 1931. Place of formation - Alma-Ata, Russian SFSR. It is the oldest military unit of the NKVD, Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR and the Russian Federation. The purpose of its creation was to fight the Basmachism. In 1933 and 1937 The regiment's military personnel carried out particularly important government tasks in the Chinese province of Xinjiang to provide military assistance to government troops[1]. In 1939, the regiment was relocated to Leningrad. In 1939-1940 he took part in the Soviet-Finnish war. As of February 1941, it was listed in the operational forces of the NKVD as the 13th separate motorized rifle regiment. With the beginning of the war, he became part of the newly formed 21st motorized rifle division of the operational forces of the NKVD [2]. Subsequently, the regiment took part in the defense of Leningrad[3]. One of the battalions carried out combat missions in the area of the Karelian Isthmus and near Vyborg[1].
