Removed the Notable Graduates

[edit]

I removed the notable graduates as it just did not seem to fit and is something more suited to a given school or institution, i.e., West Point or the USAF or Naval Academies. Also, I could see how Jeremy Michael Boorda would have gone through OCS, but Gerald F. DeConto's page listed him as a US Naval Academy grad. You can't be academy and OCS as far as I know. --EarthPerson 19:13, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See Also

[edit]

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I can't make head or tail out of a lot of RJBurkhart's additions in the See Also section. I don't think a list of schools in Newport is relevant to OCS, even if one is the USNA Prep School. The Smart Mob stuff is just baffling. --VAcharon 00:17, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

from a graduate of class 07-00

[edit]

One could attend both the academy and Navy OCS if for some reason, they did not complete their term and graduate from the academy. Some may transfer to a civilian university, or fail to complete all their ROTC classes, both of which require a hectic schedule that impede one's college experience. Upon graduation, they may go to OCS as a quick path to a commission. Navy OCS is an extremely challenging experience. Due to the heavy influence of the class drill instructor, a Marine Corps drill instructor who is usually a gunnery sergeant in rank, but may be a staff sergeant, the training resembles Marine Corps boot camp with Navy officer course material instead of Marine infantry training. The physical training is just as rigorous. In addition to morning pt, any class drill instructor can impose pt on any officer candidate for "motivational" reasons which include improperly addressing the DI, improper wear of care of the uniform, lack of proficiency at drill, etc. The class drill instructor is responsible for instructing officer candidates in drill (marching), physical training (PT), uniform care and wear, military customs and courtesies, and motivation. The Navy course material(navigation, damage control, Naval warfare, etc are taught primarily by Navy officers and chief petty officers.

Knife and Fork School

[edit]

As one who is about to go to Officer Indoctrination School, I can safely say that I have never heard OCS referred to as "Knife and Fork School" but I have heard OIS referred to "Knife and Fork School" quite a bit 128.187.214.206 23:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moving to Newport, RI

I've made some major changes to restructure this article and clean it up. This article is still most lacking in the area of citations and formatting (particularly the Alumni list). Also, I strongly recommend that someone add the official OCS logo from the OTCN website. 22 March 2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.220.82.70 (talk) 23:10, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
