Mistakes[edit]

There is no W or X in the Old Norse alphabet, and there is no accented Æ, as the Æ-sound was always long.--193.160.157.241 (Barend) 18:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Order of the letters[edit]

I'm not sure that the native speakers of the language had an alphabetical order (not afaik). But the alphabetical orders given in three glossaries in my possession are very different from that shown in the article - and all three have in common the placement of various letters at the end of the alphabet, as in Scandinavian alphabets. Are there other sources that are known to use the order given in the article? Perhaps multiple orders should be shown. Order of letters in Zoëga's Concise Dictionary of Old Icelandic (1910): a, á, b, d, e/é, f, g, h, i, í, j, k, l, m, n, o, ó, p, r, s, t, u, ú, v, þ, æ, œ, ö/ǿ (the introduction says that ö is used in place of ǫ). Order of letters in Gordon, Introduction to Old Norse (1927) (slash indicates that the two are not distinguished for the purposes of ordering): a/á, b, d, e/é, f, g, h, i/í, j, k, l, m, n, o/ó, p, r, s, t, u/ú, v, w (East Norse only), y, þ, æ, ǫ, ǿ, œ. Order of letters in glossary of Faulkes (ed.), Edda: Prologue and Gyfaginning (Viking Society for Northern Research, University College London, 1988): as in Gordon, with following exceptions: no w; last five letters are: þ, æ, œ, ǫ, ǿ. -19:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.15.105 (talk) Forgot to mention ð (as it doesn't begin any words) - not sure whether this is placed after "d" (as in the article's version of the alphabet) or whether it's alphabetised equally with d as d/ð (the latter seems to be the case in Zoega).

Þþ[edit]

I'm fairly sure the letter Þ is in the standardized Old Norse alphabet... I could provide some text examples, but I'm not 'gonna do that. For some reason. Anyway, this needs fixing. --MrGulli (talk) 21:46, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It most definitely is, you're right.--Barend (talk) 16:15, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spilt or change[edit]

I suggest that Wikipedia should have a separate page with an overview of the alphabeth, or at a minimum have a overview of the aphabeth in the ortography page. The ortography page is chaotic and does not have an overview of the alpabeth. Oddeivind (talk) 21:30, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
