The OpenStreetMap article contains a section "data format". I provided a similar section in the original version of the article but it was deleted with comment ""trim or tweak unencyclopedic content" Pls explain what makes the OpenStreetMap "data format" section different from the OpenCellID "database content" section.[reply]

The decission of a developer to provide this data to tens of thousands of users of his app has at least the same relevance like an article in some magazine und must therefore considered to be a highly valuable 3rd party source confirming the importance of this project. Pls explain, why decissions to use OpenCellID data in such 3rd party apps are considered to be no valuable 3rd party references.[reply]

I removed the content because I felt it was covering the information in too great of detail. Wikipedia is not an instruction manual, and so having a whole section on the fact that OpenCellID uses API keys seems a bit excessive (a lot of APIs do, it's hardly worth mentioning). The data model section was also very detailed - the fact that information is provided in WGS84 is inconsequential to an encyclopedic article, and would fit more in an introductory guide. Having said that, feel free to readd the information - although I'd recommend rewriting it in a more encyclopedic fashion.

I removed the app lists for the same reason. While they may be helpful to a potential user of the service, they don't really have a place in an encyclopedia article on the service, if they're not notable in some other way. Sorry for asking again: I added the list of competing apps contributing to this project, which have been developed by multiple independant people and organisations, as valuable 3rd party references because they have at least the same weight like any article of an independant journalist. The developers spent a lot of time and money to implement the app and because ALL of the users of their apps are spending repeatedly some of their free time to contribute data to the project such apps have a significantly higher reach than media with a similar number of readers. The media can may be expect 1% or 5% reading the article, but app developers can expect that 100% of the people downloading the app are interested in it.

Pls confirm that you agree that the existance of these apps in conjunction with the high number of users of most of the apps is suffient to proove that the topic of this article has enough notability for Wikipedia. Thx alot Markus (talk) 06:01, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In all likelihood, a detailed list of apps that can be used with the OpenCellID project would be excessive. Such a list would mostly be of use to people interested in using the project, and looking for a guide on what to use. It wouldn't be of encyclopedic value. It makes little difference to an encyclopedic article what the individual apps that can be used actually are - only that there is a number of apps that may be used. The individual list of apps and their details is better off hosted elsewhere, and would make sense if included in the external links section. — daranz [ t ] 21:21, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think Markus made a good point. There should definitely exist a list of apps using OpenCellID. A list of clients is important for this project.
