Just started this article - it is admittedly very rough and incomplete. Enlinked the relevant characters and digraphs, and put them in a sortable table, which hopefully willl be a useful format when it is more complete.--A12n 17:16, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of this system

[edit]

I heard some time back that Guinea's rationale for this system of transcription was to have a way to type Guinean languages using existing typewriters. This makes sense, but I don't have a reference about the decision or its date of origin.--A12n (talk) 11:08, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the wording in the lead paragraph to reflect this, and added {{citation needed}}. In any event, the old orthography was certainly not based on the ISO basic Latin alphabet, given the latter was adopted/codified in response to early computing standards needs.--A12n (talk) 03:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Correct year of change

[edit]

The fr.wikipedia.org article on this subject had some info that is more accurate or detailed, particularly with regard to the date of the official change away from the old alphabet. So I've made changes accordingly. When I originally started this article I was under the impression that the change happened soon after the major change in government in 1984, however it evidently took a bit longer.--A12n (talk) 17:42, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Still trying to pin down the date of creation of this alphabet/orthographic system.--A12n (talk) 20:09, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

[edit]

Could somebody please add redirects here from Pre-1985 Orthography of Gunea (sic), Pre-1985 Orthography of Guinea, and Pre-1985 orthography of Guinea? I searched for all three of them ─ in that order, hence the typo in the first one─ and NONE of them took me here! Also, I'm sure Pre-1985 Orthography of guinea and pre-1985 orthography of guinea and many others would be helpful as well for others who do not know the page's (admittedly rather bizarrely-formed, no offense) title. Thanks! 2600:6C44:237F:ACCB:84F:C497:6C12:AD63 (talk) 19:51, 6 March 2021 (UTC) @2600:6C44:237F:ACCB:84F:C497:6C12:AD63: Or rather 1989. But if it means the same thing, 1985 would be helpful too!
