Talk:Ost battalion
Appearance
the ost battalions were made up of p.o.w's from the eastern front (hence ost/east )they were usually Russian soldiers who prefered service in the German Whermact than to a sure death in some isolated p.o.w camp in Germany. They weren't all volunters thou most were conscript and the quality of the troops were so low that the germans put a nco behind the poor conscripts to shoot them if they didn't fight. There was a cause that is true of troops from the 101st airborne div. who captured four Koreans in the ost battalion who's military career is almost comical they were conscripted by the Japanese in 1936 to fight the russians in the war between Japan and Russia. They fought but were captured by the Russians and when Hitler invaded Russia in 1941 they again were conscripted but for Russian military service, but once again captured by the Germans they were yes, conscripted into service by the Germans to fight in the ost battalions ,it makes you wonder what these four Korean peasents thought how war worked overall they were conscripted to fight for three forgein armys and captured four times. [edit]For now all these Osttruppen, Ostlegionen, Ostbataillonen, should be collected in one article, they are too skinny alone. By the way, the name of this article is misspelled in 2 ways, which was why i didnt spot it at first. 1. In German you usually do not have spaces between the word when they are combined to make a new conscept. It is not Eastern Batallion, it is the equivalent of Easternbatallion. 2. In German it is not spelled battalion, it is bataillon. (move the "i") 3. I.e. Ostbataillonen, as used here--Stor stark7 Speak 01:21, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
