[edit]Treatment
Therapy can only be achieved by suppressing the immune system, using Immunosuppressive drug such as, glucocorticoids ( prednisolone, dexamethasone or triamcinolone). To reduce the side effects of glucocorticoids, they can be used in combination with chlorambucil. Azathioprine may also be used in dogs, but this substance is contraindicated in cats due to fatal side effects.
Immunosuppressive therapy should only be given after careful diagnosis, as it is contraindicated in the case of mite infestation.
