The original description of P. wingei states that it is NOT synonymous to "Endlers Guppy". The authors speculate that Endlers Guppy is a hybrid between reticulata and wingei, partly based on the fact that Laguna de los Patos is outside present wingei distribution, and that today the lakes are populated by normal guppies. The inference is that wingei were transferred to los Patos by humans, and have subsequently been diluted by the native reticulata.

The authors therefore suggest the name "campoma guppy" for wingei, in order to avoid confusion & further hybridization.

Unfortunately the authors then did not take their own advice, and in subsequent popular articles have stated that wingei and Endler's Guppy is one and the same, which is the reason for the continued confusion.

I'm not going to edit the article to reflect this, as it's pointless, but for the record: the cited article does not support the statements in this wikipedia article.
