Lead section
[edit]This is an important subject in current epidemiology and public health research and practice. However the article need a lot of work. I've started some cleanup of the article, but it might be helpful to sort out the lead section first.
In the most basic sense, PIMs are based on, and extend a group of statistical measures about population disease burden. Or something like this I think would be suitable.
