A potting bench is the ideal spot for potting, repotting, and other messy gardening jobs.

One of the most important functions of a potting bench is to keep all your gardening supplies neatly organized in one spot.

Determine whether or not you will want to have a removable bucket that can hold potting soil or be used to collect extra dirt that falls from plants being repotted. Some benches have a handy raised wood edge that keeps the dirt from spilling and creating a mess in your backyard or patio.

A potting bench is indispensible if you do any container gardening—serving as both a work area to 'contain' your planting mess, as well as a storage unit for your garden tools and supplies. You'll also find you'll spend less time bent over uncomfortably—saving your back from strain.

There are many styles of potting benches made from a variety of materials including wood, metail and vinyl. Some potting tables have a work area with additional shelves, racks or cupboards and many have hooks for handy tool hangers. You will also find deluxe designs which include a dry sink for storing soil.

A portable potting bench is very handy if you have limited space or if you like to move your gardening center to a shed or garage when not in use.
