Interchangeble servers with M1000e?[edit]

In the VRTX you can use the G12 servers M520 and M620. In article it is said these are NOT interchangeable between M1000e and VRTX due to 'different firmare/bios' and 'different Mezzanine connectors'. Afaik there is only a software (firmware/bios) difference: mainly to support the shared Perc system to access the VRTX HDD's: the Dell PE VRTX Technical guide mentions:

Server modules Up to four PowerEdge M520 or M620 server modules specifically configured for the enclosure

it does NOT say that there is any (hardware) difference between them. As the claim that the blades are NOT interchangeable were made by anonymous contributor I added the Citation Needed template. So if anyone can clarify it and/or add the citation it would be very welcome. Tonkie (talk) 16:44, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Comment from myself: physically the blades in M1000e and VRTX are the same: there is no difference and you can use a blade that works in M1000e to VRTX. Of course: if the blade was running in a VRTX and OS refers to/loads from the VRTX shared storage it won't start that OS when inserted in a M1000e: but the blades can be interchanged. Just need to be reconfigured and OS will very likely to be re-installed. Tonkie (talk) 17:25, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Ideally of course the article would be based on verifiable citations, not personal knowledge. Thanks W Nowicki (talk) 19:02, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

  • 10GB switch modules are available - "PowerEdge VRTX 10Gb Switch Module, Int 16 ports to Ext 6 ports (4x 10Gb SFP+, 2x 1Gb RJ45) (329-BCGY)", which is married to a QLogic 57840S 10Gb Quad Port KR Blade Network Daughter Card (540-BBCQ) to use 4 ports
  • M530 & M630 blades are available.
  • All issues with redundant RAID controllers (running only in active/passive) have been resolved after 2 years of firmware updates - at launch you couldn't use redundant controllers with write-back caching which gave horrible performance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 08:37, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
