Merge?[edit]

I see that deletion was proposed and then objected to for this page, but considering how little the command does, it could be, and, in fact, is completely dealt with in Environment variables. I'd say just redirect this page there, since there really isn't anything else to add. MrZaiustalk 18:38, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weak agree. I cannot gauge the importance of the command; a redirect may only be appropriate if this and other related commands are entirely explained on the resultant page (i.e. a 'Unix environment variables' page). Watermellonman 06:20, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Strangely enough, the printenv command only takes one argument. As such, I was able to introduce complete coverage of it into that article. Note that the more complicated topic of the SET command, which can be used to both view and edit variables and varies somewhat from shell to shell (cmd.exe,command.com,bash,csh) is also covered in that article, rather than a seperate one. That gives us a precedent.
Furthermore, there's a fair bit of overlap with several other commands, including four-six dedicated commands and good old fashioned echo. MrZaiustalk 16:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then. Perhaps we should give this merge idea a few more days so that anyone with a dissenting opinion has a chance to weigh in. Otherwise, I'll leave it up to you to work your merging magic :) Watermellonman 18:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
